This compilation includes all studio albums and official live album “Take Us Alive”.

Extreme's music was never easy to classify, since it rarely confined itself to heavy metal, hard rock, or pop. The Massachusetts-based band formed in 1985; guitarist Nuno Bettencourt had already played in a local band with bassist Pat Badger, while singer Gary Cherone fronted his own group with drummer Paul Geary. The two bands eventually merged, and Cherone and Bettencourt formed a songwriting partnership that would soon place Extreme atop the Billboard charts, if only for a short period.
Coupling the technical proficiency of Bettencourt's guitar with a funky rhythmic base, the band issued a self-titled debut album in 1989. It peaked at number 80 -- a modest showing for a new, unseasoned band -- and the song "Play with Me" was used to orchestrate the chase scene during Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Extreme had begun to earn respect in the heavy metal world, but it wasn't until the arrival of the band's follow-up effort, Pornograffitti (particularly the the Everly Brothers-style acoustic ballad "More Than Words"), that a mainstream audience latched onto the group's sound. "More Than Words" became a number one hit, while its follow-up single, an acoustic-based pop/rocker named "Hole Hearted," hit number four. Extreme were now one of the most popular acts in the pop-metal genre, but the looming arrival of grunge music -- not to mention the band's own shifting tastes -- combined to make Extreme's reign relatively short-lived.
The band's third album, III Sides to Every Story, was an ambitious effort whose sales (while strong at first) couldn't match those of Pornograffitti. Geary left the lineup soon after, seeking a career in music business instead, and a revised version of the band (featuring the percussion of Mike Mangini, formerly of Annihilator) returned in 1995 with Waiting for the Punchline. It, too, suffered from a lack of sales. Accordingly, Extreme's bandmates announced their breakup the following year. Bettencourt went on to launch a solo career and issued the Schizophonic album in 1997; he then released two additional albums with his band Mourning Widows. Meanwhile, Cherone enjoyed a brief stint as the vocalist for Van Halen. His one album with the band, 1998's Van Halen III, was slammed by critics and fans alike, resulting in poor sales and Cherone's speedy exit.
A 13-track best-of collection named An Accidental Collision of Atoms kept Extreme's legacy alive in 2000, and the band quietly reunited in 2004 for a small series of shows. The reunion gigs continued into 2008, when a new album, Saudades de Rock, marked the group's first batch of new material in 13 years.

Dull Knife were a German band who attempted to combine Deep Purple-influenced hard rock with some soul in the vein of Joe Cocker. To be honest, I think their first and only album "Electric Indian" is mostly forgettable. There's nothing wrong with the technical abilities of the group. They played heavy and powerful, with lots of good guitar, organ and drumming. The problem is mainly the mediocre material that fails to impress me very much.

Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) is a folk rock supergroup made up of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, also known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY) when joined by occasional fourth member Neil Young. They are noted for their intricate vocal harmonies, often tumultuous interpersonal relationships, political activism, and lasting influence on music and culture. Gillan was a rock band formed in 1978 by Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. In 1978 Ian Gillan had become dissatisfied with the jazz fusion style of his band called the Ian Gillan Band and dissolved it, retaining only keyboard player Colin Towns, and formed a new band entitled Gillan. He added Steve Byrd on guitar, Liam Genockey on drums and John McCoy on bass, and initially pursued a progressive rock direction, releasing their eponymous debut in 1978, although they could only get a record deal in Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. The two founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist/vocalist Phil Lynott met while still in school. Lynott assumed the role of frontman and led them throughout their recording career of thirteen studio albums. Thin Lizzy are best known for their songs "Whiskey in the Jar", "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town", all major international hits still played regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations.

Uriah Heep is a British rock band, formed in 1969 in London, England, and borrowed the name of the character of the novel by Charles Dickens' David Copperfield. "The first group was formed when producer Jerry Bron invited keyboardist Ken Hensley to join the participants Spice.

Patrick Henry "Pat" Travers (born April 12, 1954) is a Canadian rock guitarist, keyboardist and singer who began his recording career with Polydor Records in the mid-1970s. Pat Thrall, Nicko McBrain, Mick Dyche, Tommy Aldridge, Peter "Mars" Cowling, Barry Dunaway, Jerry Riggs, and Carmine Appice are some of the noted musicians who have been members of the Pat Travers Band through the years.

Jürgen Blackmore was born in London in 1964 as the son of guitar virtuoso Ritchie Blackmore and his German wife, Margit.
Raised in Hamburg, Jürgen received his first acoustic guitar at the age of 10, and with the encouragement of his mother, the little player knew early on that he would have a career in music.
After his own band 1990's debut 'Still Holding On' and an instrumental album, he was involved in several projects, being the most recent last year's 'EBC Roxx' (featured on 0dayrock) in collaboration with female singer ELA and the legendary Tony Carey, recording the CD called ‘Winners’.

In 2011 Jürgen started his own record and publishing company, to release his really first integral album; "Voices".
Entirely written by him, and with a tight band assembled with renowned musicians, Blackmore called the best melodic hard rock vocalists from Germany such as Oliver Hartmann, Michael Bormann, ELA, Dave Esser and more.
The oriental-style "Voices" opens the album with a mystical-sounding intro, and then develops into a classic hard rocker quite similar to earlier Rainbow. Singer Mark Engelstädter fits perfectly with a vocal tone resembling Swedish Mats Leven. Jürgen R. Blackmore has noticeably evolved with the 6 strings, palpable on his melodic and accurate legato phrases throughout the disc.
Follower "Guardian Angel" has a much more commercial approach, featuring one of the best singers recently appeared in Germany, the Rüsselsheim-born Oliver Hartmann.
"Beethoven" has an epic and (obviously) neo-classical structure, but Jürgen never lets the music go too heavy. Here comes the first surprise of the album; the lead vocals are at charge of Michael Bormann (Jaded Heart), singing in a style never heard from this melodic frontman. I am not completely convinced if it works or not...

"Destructive Mania" has the female vocals of the (unknown to me) Catherine Jauer, a more than interesting singer with powerful and articulated vocalizations.
On "Incomplete" Michael Bormann returns to the mic, and now yes, his melodic vocals appear and really fits this song, a very nice semi-slow melodic ballad with an inventive guitar work by Jurgen and a swirling keyboard solo. Sadly, to my ears, this track deserved a better mix.
Dave Esser does a good job on "Jeckyl & Hyde" imposting his deep and low tone on this good (although a bit generic) rocker, while ELA sings the dark "Nanshu" in a semi-symphonic style adding some variation.
For "Victorious", Engelstädter was again a right choice, he sounds as Mark Boals in places.
As bonus, last track "Dreams" is a fine instrumental piece taken from Jurgen's 'Between Darkness And Light' solo album.


J.R. Blackmore has released his more complete and consistent CD to date with "Voices".
Jürgen playing and songwriting has his father's genes not being necessarily a clone, but Ritchie's influence is undeniable, as well as Uli J. Roth, Steve Morse and many other classic guitarists.
As all albums featuring such diverse vocalists, some tracks work better than others, you need somehow a magic touch to choose the right singer for each track.
On "Voices", the result is successful for the most part, being specially Mark Engelstädter a revelation to me.
Nice and Classic Hard Rock melodies abound on "Voices", a correctly produced album (apparently only to be released in Germany) that worth to investigate.

Kansas' 2000 album Somewhere to Elsewhere is notable because it's the first recording by the original six members in almost 20 years. Joining vocalist Steve Walsh, guitarist Richard Williams, vocalist/violinist Robby Steinhardt, longtime bassist Billy Greer, and drummer Phil Ehart are original guitarist/keyboardist Kerry Livgren and original bassist Dave Hope.

Livgren wrote all ten songs. Somewhere to Elsewhere features the innovative dynamics, and long songs, of Kansas' early work while maintaining a crisply modern production sound. "Icarus II" is a marvelously intricate epic about bomber pilots; the bright piano and violin lines give way to blistering heavy metal guitar symbolizing a bombing attack. "When the World Was Young" is a groovy rocker with Walsh contributing a broad range of vocal tones. The richly moving "The Coming Dawn (Thanatopsis)" alternates between subdued and bombastic passages with Steinhardt's violin leading the way. The complex, nine-minute "Myriad" is arguably the most "progressive rock" moment on the album. Greer gets his first ever Kansas lead vocal on the easygoing "Look at the Time." Steinhardt sings on "Disappearing Skin Tight Blues," an unusual song with clever but uncharacteristic rhyming lyrics and '50s-like vocal group harmonies. "Distant Vision," another nine-minute piece, features Livgren's trademark: spiritual lyrics. "Not Man Big" has an oddly powerful, loose tempo and bitter lyrics about human folly. A short, goofy singalong acoustic studio jam is included as a hidden bonus track. Technology directly affected the recording of Somewhere to Elsewhere in a rather unsettling way. Walsh wasn't in the studio with the rest of the band. He was also working on a solo album at the time so he burned his vocals on CDs and traded them back and forth with Livgren. Portions of the album's profits will be donated to the World War II Memorial Fund.

Deep Purple fans were outraged, Heavy Metallurgists ran shrieking for cover. But Ian Gillan's first post-Purple project remains one of the hardest, loudest and most exciting of all the mothership's myriad offspring -- and the fact that Child in Time is such a brutally funky album only amplifies its achievements. How easy it would have been, after all, for Gillan to simply fall back on all the past glories that his audience was hoping he'd be replaying.

Instead, even the album's title -- lifted, of course, from one of Purple's most sacred classics -- was a joke. "Child in Time" was replayed within, of course. But you'd have a hard time recognizing it. It's strange -- looking back on the Deep Purple story, it's the arrival of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes that heralds the band's own flirtation with da funk, and the departure of Gillan and Roger Glover (the latter producer of this album) that allowed them into the family in the first place.

You'd never guess that from Child in Time, though, as it bounds turbulently from the full-on crunch of "Lay Me Down," through the Sly Stone-ish "You Make Me Feel So Good," and onto the aforementioned "Child in Time," drawn across a luxurious quiet storm landscape, and squeezing an almost heartbreaking guitar solo out of Ray Fenwick. Other versions of "Child in Time" are louder, harder, more powerful. But this remains the most emotional -- and that's what the song has always demanded. The album's other epic is "Let It Slide" -- apparently a song about premature ejaculation, that contrarily slides on for eleven-plus minutes. Deeply atmospheric, lighter-wavingly anthemic, it's a more a showcase for the band than its singer, confirming both the democracy of this new group and going some way towards explaining the "jazz-rock" label that Child in Time is frequently saddled with. In fact, the album as a whole has more in common with the infusion of funk that was leaking into roughly simultaneous releases by Thin Lizzy ( "Dancing in the Moonlight" ), T. Rex, and bandmembers Fenwick and John Gustafson's recent past with Fancy and Roxy Music respectively -- not to mention Purple's own Come Taste the Band. But, if purebred, punchy R&B be your poison, Child in Time wipes the floor with the lot of them.

For anyone who thinks that the "Shout To The Top" 4CD set of "The Rise And Rise of Ziggy Stardust" is the shit when it comes to Bowie's BBC-sessions, think again. These three silver disc bootlegs have been produced directly from the master tapes compiled in preparation for the aborted "Bowie at the BEEB" 3CD-set set to be released on the NMC-label in the mid-nineties. The STTP-discs simply took these recordings, replete with all clicks, pops and sector boundary errors, and then boosted them by 5db... In this torrent you can find the original recordings, with most clicks & pops and all SBE's carefully removed and with no unnecessary "hard limiting". As a bonus, the discs contain a set of demo & studio recordings from 1967-1969 which have been doing the rounds on numberous bootleg CD compilations but nowhere sound as clean as they do here (they are seemingly taken directly from the master tape also used for the vinyl bootleg album, "Little Toy Soldier").

I never had the pleasure of seeing this band live. What a treat to finally have a quality recorded concert CD. It's really amazing to hear them reproduce their complex, highly produced songs almost to perfection in a live setting. Particular praise most go to their flawless rendition of "Lady of the Lake" and the total treat of hearing a previously unreleased track "Breath and Thunder".
