Captain Beyond is a perfect example of a very 70s phenomenon, the Supergroup, made up of previously famous members of other bands (Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, Johnny Winter, and Rick Derringer.) Like most bands of this ilk, they largely lived in the studio, and the lineup was what might kindly be called "flexible". Producers often have as much of a hand in deciding who is in and who is out, rather than the boys in the band.
